Louise has always been interested in the relationship between consciousness and the body. She was searching for a way to explore this interest more intimately and found yoga at age 39 and immediately fell in love with its beauty, grace and challenge. She is grateful to John Friend, the founder of Anusara yoga, for teaching a yoga practice that cultivates wisdom, clarity, compassion, fearlessness, and ecstasy. Louise has been granted Anusara-Inspired status by John Friend. She has accumulated over 650 hours of Anusara training including an Immersion with Robin Golt and Barrie Risman in Montreal and teacher training with Todd Norian in Massachussets. Her studies with John Friend include his Level I Teacher Training, Anusara Philosophy Immersions, Advanced Intensive, Master Immersions and Anusara Therapy Training. She has been on several retreats and participated in many workshops with John and continues to study and develop her understanding of yoga. Louise began her professional life as a classical flutist and enjoyed many years of performing and teaching the flute. For five years, with Patricia Watt, she ran the Toronto Suzuki Music Camp, a performing arts camp for young musicians. She still teaches the flute. Her passion for artistic expression is something she encourages in her students. She lives with her partner, Rob Faust, a mask maker and performer from New Orleans and Artistic Director of his company, Faustwork Mask Theatre. Her eldest daughter, Nenagh Hathaway, is studying Art History at Queen's. Her younger daughter Georgia Hathaway is heading off to Mcgill in the Fall to study Science. This year Louise joined John in Tucson for his Advanced Intensive and Master Immersion, and for a retreat in Costa Rica. She is looking forward to rejoining the "Light the Sky" tour again at the Yoga Journal Conference in Colorado in September and for a Level II Teacher Training in Boston in October. She is pursuing certification in Anusara yoga.
"Louise is one of those rare teachers that you just melt into. Her heart is so open and compassionate and she brings out the best in each student. Her words flow like poetry in motion, and her classes shine with the unique balance of strength and softness." |
